NO pictures: More (late) AC3DS Info

Okay, let’s try this again… I typed up a whole post an hour ago and in the process of publishing it, either WordPress or Firefox deleted the entire contents of the post. Well thank you very much, a body-less, empty blog post with a title is oh-so-useful to me.

Well, firstly, sorry for a post after so long that doesn’t even have pictures >.< But I saw a video last night of a discussion between the producer and the developers of the Animal Crossing game for 3DS that pointed out (or confirmed) some features of the new game. It’s an old video but I don’t think it was translated til a couple weeks ago and just had to post about it after watching it

To speed things up, here’s the video from Youtube

So to recap…

❧ As Town Mayor, you can add outdoor benches and lamps to give your town its character.

❧ As Mayor, you have a secretary, “Shizu”, who may or may not be of help. I hope you can give her a makeover.

❧ You can customise the outside of your house! The walls, fence and letterbox! They better mean the roof too…

❧ The houses at the end of the map are “model homes”, other people’s house designs acquired via StreetPass!

❧ Tom Nook is the real estate agent in charge of the model homes.

Lyle or Redd better not be in charge of Nookington’s… Oh wait, there’s the Mininooks.

❧ Across the railroad (north?) is a “shopping mall”

❧ The town is bigger than before I hope they mean even bigger than ACCF.

❧ Townies’ newly adjusted heights now reflect their species better, so now for example a squirrel only comes up to your nose and you’re the same height as an elephant. Naturally the bear is the tallest of them all.

❧ You can use your own designs on some parts of the furniture.

❧ Boys could wear a skirt…

Isn’t that awesome? You guys probably found out all this ages ago, but I must have been living under a rock the past month or so so I never knew we already had concrete facts about the upcoming game

MY OWN THOUGHTS

After some reflection, I think it’s a little sad to suddenly have the role of Mayor in the new Animal Crossing. All of a sudden you’re no longer part of your town, but stand above it. If they implement this new aspect too much, I think it would be lonely.

And also, I’m the type of gamer who will control as many aspects of the game as I am given the freedom to, doing endless research to find all the possibilities, only to spend days stressing over which one choice is the best one. In ACWW I already had control over the grass, house type and map layout. If I’m given more choice my brain will explode

I’m sure we all assumed though that we would start off as a normal citizen, and have to work our way up to being the Mayor. It might be just like that in the end, which I think would be perfect In that case it would be rewarding rather than lonely

Maybe more thoughts to come…

That’s it for now. I hope the post doesn’t mess up again. Somehow even in the middle of holidays I am still so busy o_o So I don’t know when I can get to sorting through my new batch of photos! xP My own is still 3 days behind.

I’ve never seen that video either, so I guess I’ve been under a rock, too.

Learning all this new information leaves me with even more questions, haha. I wonder what exactly you do as the mayor. Is this why you can put streetlamps and such outside now, because of being the mayor? I think it’s interesting that you don’t even have to do your mayor duties.

I’m also really curious about all the possibilities in town layouts and designs! I look forward to resetting some when I get the game to see the variations in town layouts and features. The bushes, streetlamps, benches, and well seen in the trailer make me so curious about other outdoor furniture available: can you have a pool? And there must be a lot of new house customizations for there to be a section in town dedicated to model homes, so that’s exciting! I bet you can have hedges around your house, that would be awesome.

I’m so happy you’ve been catching up in your town and taking lots of pictures, can’t wait to see them!

Well, considering how the last mayor took care of his duties, I’m sure it wouldn’t be such a big deal if we didn’t take care of ours >_>
I’m definitely going to do some resetting first, or hanging around on forums and letting other people do the work xD
I kind of hope all of the player’s characters share one roof again, or that you can expand to a mansion regardless ^^; (Makes sense for the mayor, right? xD) I read that you could also choose the location of your home!

My game is finally up to date! Here’s hoping I can keep it that way for NYE The snow helped a lot since I skipped to days that were snowing and bypassed days of watering xP

  Haha good idea, that’s what I did with AC:CF, just read about the different town features online. I think if the town is bigger than it was in AC:WW and even AC:CF, there will probably be a house for each character (also makes sense for Tom Nook’s new job). That sounds awesome if you can choose where your house goes even more than you can in AC:CF(where you’re given 4 random house location options). I would love mine by the waterfall. I agree, an elegant mansion would be fitting for being the manor. I can’t wait to see the different house designs you can pick because I don’t remember seeing them in the trailers. I did see a tent, maybe you can live in a tent?

    Wasn’t there something like townies putting up tents or igloos during appropriate seasons in AC:GC?

      Yeah, that was the first thing I thought of when I saw the tent, AC:GC’s summer campers and the winter igloos, and it would be awesome if they returned! In AC:GC you could play games with the campers and get stew/chowder from them; it was great having actual food (not just birthday cakes) on tables in your house.

Interesting! Never saw that image before! I love the town map, it’s completely new, though I hope we still get a unique town like in other Animal Crossing games.
I love the picture of the town residents!! And I can’t believe we can be Mayor of our town!! So many new things! Including… swimming!!! Sorry, I’m pretty happy right now.
Anyway, thank you so much for the Christmas present and Happy Holidays!

Yes, the map looks very nice indeed From what it sounded like, we’ll still get our own unique town somehow or other. So are you pretty much definitely getting AC3DS (and the 3DS)?

Btw on the map I made you sorry the grass is a bit rough compared to Amy’s and Kammile’s; I did it based on the photo of your town map so some parts weren’t clear ^^;

As long as I can still be best friends with them, get their picture i’m fine. I’m sort of like that too, too many options is just… oof.

I feel the same way. It will be no fun if the town really treats you like mayor. On the other hand, I’m 100% sure that won’t happen (maybe only with your secretary), and at most you’ll just get cheeky comments from neighbours about your position.

I can totally picture Cyrano from my current town saying something like, “If you’re mayor, how come I’m still living in that one-roomed shack”, or, “How come I haven’t seen you lose any weight from the stress?”

        No idea about the hairstyles. They’ve hardly released any details about the specifics of the game, and most of the info gathered by fans so far are just shrewd observations from the Japanese trailers >_<
        
        But doing some trailer observation myself, I’d say we’ll get a few nice hairstyles in there

        I would think so, judging by how AC:WW’s hairstyles carried over to AC:CF. And there may even be an option to transfer your City Folk character to AC:3DS (like you could transfer your AC:WW character to AC:CF), so in that case there would need to be hairstyle compatibility.
        
        This is one of my favorite preview pictures for AC:3DS, I think it’s really beautiful. (When you google “autumn animal crossing 3ds” your picture is the first to come up, Teru! xP) Anyway, the hairstyle there is from AC:CF, one of my favorites.

I wonder, maybe you will be able to transfer from AC:WW. That didn’t occur to me at first but the 3DS connects with both the Wii and DS.

In an earlier comment I said that different house models weren’t shown in the trailers or preview images, but look at these houses (which you can tell are player houses because of the mailbox):

This one looks really basic, like a house you could start with at the beginning of the game, and it has a wooden fence.

But this one has flowerboxes in the windows (love that! <3), hedges, a white mailbox, a very different door, and maybe even a different roof texture, it's hard to tell.

You’re right I never even realised I could identify the players’ houses -_-
And there you were wishing for hedges ^_^ (edit: Oh on second thoughts you were betting. I underestimated your confidence ) It seems to me like the hedge is smaller than the fence though, but the houses are the same size. I wonder what’s up with that

Oh btw I hope you can get Swapnote (EU: Letter Box) for your 3DS soon; I sent you a couple of things already (That’s what you call getting ahead of yourself, whoops )

  Yeah, I noticed that too, it’s like the wooden fence is surrounding a tiny yard. I guessed that hedges would be one of the options because there are pictures of them around villagers’ houses:

  Speaking of which, I’m curious about how house styles will work in this game (will they be different for each town?), but I’m sure that’s something we’ll have to wait to find out after the release. So far they seem kind of generic and cartoony (like the ones from AC:GC) compared to AC:WW’s variety of vastly different house styles.
  
  Ohhh, I downloaded Swapnote a while ago but didn’t realize I needed to activate anything. No wonder I couldn’t figure out how to send notes. >_< Thanks for your note, you have lovely handwriting and I loved the drawings! My handwriting is pretty bad and I don't have the best control over the stylus.

    Yay you got the note ^^ I used a DSiXL stylus for that (the fat pen-shaped one ) so it was much better. I think I’ve taken the 3DS stylus out a total of 5 times, it’s so firmly set and badly located >.<
    
    I actually kind of hope house styles will work more like they did in AC:WW, rather than AC:CF, where they were so strictly limited (I think), the way they were tied in pairs. But that coming from the person who stresses more, the more choice she's given… maybe I'm asking for trouble
